Impressive winner of the Prix Warda (PA) last month, the homebred Luwsail (Al Mourtajez) continued to progress by landing the Gr.2 (PA) Prix de Carthage which took place on Sunday, April 21st. With Stephane Pasquier in the saddle and trained by François Rohaut, Luwsail was the youngest and only four-year-old to run in the 2,000m contest. Owned by Al Shaqab Racing, Luwsail was having a second go at Group (PA) level after a good fifth in the Gr.1 (PA) Al Rayyan Cup last year. With Socrates (Af Albahar) setting a good pace, Luwsail was waiting at the rear of midfield. Still on the bridle entering the home straight, Luwsail showed a good turn of foot to pass his rivals ears pricked under a hands and heels ride to win by two and a half lengths. Socrates was a brave second. Ska De l’Aigle (Al Mourtajez) took third. Winning trainer François Rohaut said after the race: .He’s impressive today. He improved a lot since last year. We did well to leave him alone in the Autumn so he could get more mature. He looks amazing physically, he’s a very good-looking horse and he’s good. He makes us dream. He will run the Derby at Chantilly in June. While Ska De l’Aigle is still a bit cheeky, we may put the blinkers back on. We need to change something with him, he’s not brave anymore. Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, he is out of Al Dowha (Munjiz).
