Tajamhor retains Al Dibal Cup for second straight year

The Al Dibal Cup, a 1900m Local Purebred Arabian Handicap, took centre stage of the race meeting conducted on sand at QREC Al Rayyan Racecourse on Wednesday, 27 March 2024. The feature of the seven-race card saw the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned Tajamhor (QA) (General x Al Ajouz) winning by impressive five lengths and landing the same title for the second year in a row and again with the same trainer Zuhair Mohsen, who scored his third straight win in the evening, having teamed this time with jockey Anas Al Seyabi. The Al Jeryan Stud-owned and M.H.K Al Attiyah-trained AJS Haizum (QA) (AF AlBahar) landed the minor honours as he finished second under his regular jocky Szczepan Mazur. The Abdulaziz Saleh Al Jaber-owned and Hadi Al Ramzani-trained Habes (QA) (Harran ASF) finished third as he was a futher half a length behind under jockey Abdul Aziz Fahad Al Balushi, securing the same spot for the same trainer and the same jockey they had in the 2023 renewal with Chrome (QA) (Pharfadet). QREC Racing Manager, Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, presented the trophies to the winners.

Keheilan Al Sakab

The meeting opened with Keheilan Al Sakab (QA) (AF AlBahar x Keheilah), ridden by Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik, taking the Class 6 Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for owner and trainer Bader Y A Al Baloshi with a strong finishing effort. The six-year-old gelding grabbed a well-deserved two-length victory in the 1200m race for four-to-six-year olds.

John Steed

The 1200m Class 5 Thoroughbred Novice Plate for three-year-olds saw a thrilling blanket finish with the Faleh Suwayed B S AL Ajami-owned and Hamad Al-Jehani-trained John Steed (IRE) (Inns Of Court x Explosive Lady), getting off the mark in a very thrilling manner, winning the 1200m contest under jockey Arnaud De Lepine. The margins separating the first three runners home were short head and a head respectively. The very competitive and good runner-up and third-placed were the Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed F N Al-Thani-owned and Mohammed Salama Ashour-trained Manos Arriba (IRE) (Tamayuz), who was riddenby jockey Jefferson Smith and the Al Ghazali Stud-owned and Nasser Ghazali-trained Timbuktoo (GB) (Oasis Dream), who was ridden by Marco Casamento respectively.

Jabahat

he Injaaz Stud-owned and Jihad El Ahmad-trained Jabahat (QA) (Holy Roman Emperor x Means Of Assent) scored for the second time in a row, as the bay mare ran out a narrow winner of the 1700m Class 5 Local Thoroughbred Handicap for four-year-olds and older rated 30-50. Under the ride of Ivan Rossi, the five-year-old came with a very late charge in the final strides to overtake the leaders and just got the better of the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned Musanada and Zuhair Mohsen-trained (QA) (Elvstroem), who was ridden by Anas Al Seyabi, to take the prize by just a head at the line in another thrilling finish.

Shobrom

The Three Quarter Racing-owned Shobrom (IRE) (Acclamation x Strasbourg Place) timed his surge just right in the 1200m Class 4 Thoroughbred Handicap for three-year-olds and older rated 60-80 under jockey Abdulla Rashid Al-Hajri to take the race by a length and a half for trainer Owaida Salem Al Hajri.

Hidalgo Du Croate

The thrilling finishes continued as there was another three-way finish in the 1900m Class 4 Purebred Arabian Handicap for four-year-olds and older rated 60-80with a nose and a head separating the first three home, but it was the Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari-owned and Zuhair Mohsen-trained Hidalgo Du Croate (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau x Beanie Du Croate), ridden by Maxim Bozzio, who emerged on top, making up for the owner and the trainer who were denied victory in the final strides of the third race in the card earlier in the evening. The good runner-up and third placed were the Mubarak Ali M Al-Nuaimi-owned and Owaida Salem Al Hajri-trained Al Nati Up (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau), who was ridden by Faleh Bughanaim, and the Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed F N Al-Thani-owned and Mohammed Salama Ashour-trained Al Kazim (FR) (Al Mamun Monlau), who was ridden by Jefferson Smith.

Mobilise

Trainer Zuhair Mohsen continued his superb evening with a quick-fire double, as he saddled an impressive winner in the 1700m Class 3 Thoroughbred Handicap for three-year-olds and older rated 70-90 as the Hamad bin Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al Attiya-owned Mobilise (GB) (Footstepsinthesand x Flare Of Firelight) bounced back to excellent from and bolted up by five lengths clear under jockey Soufiane Saadi
