PAZEER, GAZWAN, AJS MOADDIE win honours in HH The Amir Sword Trials & HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy Day

In presence of the Qatar Olympic Committee President H.E. Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani, PAZEER (Siyouni x Parandeh) won the 2200m finale of the HH The Amir Sword Trials & HE Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al Thani Trophy Day. The trainer Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-trained 5YO ensured it was a big victory. The Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi-owned colt had stayed midfield in the H.E. SHEIKH JOAAN BIN HAMAD AL THANI’S TROPHY (4yo & older Thoroughbreds) under Eduardo Pedroza, but snatched the advantage at the business end of the run. As the post neared, he had Stefano Ibido trained VERANDA (Canford Cliffs x Visinada) in pursuit not too far behind under Ronan Thomas, but Al-Malki’s charge held on just fine for a nice half a length victory. The Julian Colin Smart-schooled AL SHAMAN (War Front x Communique), with Theo Bachelot in the saddle, edged out Jewel House at the post by a quarter of a length as the colours of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani snapped up second and third spots.

HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s GAZWAN (Amer x Arc De Ciel) went one better than his Qatar National Day Trophy (Gr2 PA) outing, as the 8yo grabbed an imposing three length victory in the penultimate race of the day – HH THE AMIR SWORD TRIAL (Gr3 PA) (4yo & older). Theo Bachelot and his partner stayed on the heels of the pacemaker, Aaley Al Magam, for the bulk of the 2200m race before upping the pace coming off the bend. Al Shaqab Racing’s AL WALID (Dahess x Al Sarwa),trained by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, gave a chase under Faleh Bughanaim, but that did not prove enough as the Julian Smart-trained Gazwan had surged forward, eventually winning by three lengths. Harry Bentley helmed the Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi-schooled SPAGHETTI (Snoopi x Nouillaugratin) to third place.

Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS MOADDIE (AF AlBahar x Gabie De Carrere) had done well coming into Saturday’s HH THE AMIR SILVER SWORD TRIAL (4yo Purebred Arabians), having opened his account November before some good efforts post that. On Saturday, under the talented Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim, there was no stopping for Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani’s charge once he got going on the home straight of the mile-long race, eventually beating the competition by two and three-quarter lengths.

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s SHARESA (Burning Sand x Margouia) continued her unbeaten run in Qatar this season when she notched her fourth straight victory at the Al Rayyan Park on Saturday. Theo Bachelot had Julian Colin Smart’s ward push forward on the outside coming off the bend in the mile long PUREBRED ARABIAN TRIAL and then take the advantage in the last furlong to win her third C&D victory this season by half a length.

A timely kick in the final few metres of the seven-furlong THOROUGHBRED CUP TRIAL (Class 2) (4yo & older) saw Injaaz Stud’s NORDIC DREAM (Dream Ahead x Nyramba) register his first victory in Qatar on his third outing around Al Rayyan Park. Trained by Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi, the colt had finished in the money on both his outings coming into Saturday’s miler and the 6yo did enough to win at the post by a neck with JP Guillambert in the saddle.

Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al Thani’s SURRA MAN RAA (War Chant x Miss Trinidad) has barely kept a foot wrong this season, coming into LOCAL THOROUGHBRED TRIAL (4yo & older) with two victories out of three outings, including a runner-up finish in the Guineas. On Saturday, the Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-trained gelding improved his strike rate, with his second straight win, having won the C&D Local Thoroughbred Qatar Derby in December, cruising to a comfortable victory in the 1850m run under Eduardo Pedroza.

Having shown capability on his Qatar debut last month by finishing in the frame, Al Jasra Stud’s COCOCABALA (Sir Prancealot x Dream Applause) opened his account around the Al Rayyan Park in an impressive victory in the THOROUGHBRED 3 YEAR OLD TRIAL (Class 2) on Saturday. Helmed by Ivan Rossi for Tareq Essa Abdulla, the dual winner in the UK won by three lengths to spare, beating the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani-trained duo – Rex Place and Arabic Channel – for the win.

The Mohammed Hussain Afroz-rained DARKANNA (Dark Angel x Jadanna) brushed aside two forgettable finishes to register her first victory in Qatar, topping the THOROUGHBRED SPRINT TRIAL (Class 2) (3yo & older). While the race saw Anima Rock go past the post ahead of the Al Thumama Racing filly, a jockey objection saw the stewards ruling interference, handing a one and a half-length victory to Jean Baptiste Hamel and his mount, ahead of Harry Bentley helmed Anima Rock.

After being well held on dirt on her last outing, Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS AL MAHA (AF Al Bahar x Nevadour Al Maury) bounced back with her second C&D victory this season. Helmed by Tomas Lukasek for trainer Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani, the 6yo held off a challenge from two Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s charges at the post to win the seven-furlong LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN NOVICE CUP run by a neck at the post.

Umm Qarn’s FAHIM (General x Malakbe) had shown his quality when second on his debut last month. On Saturday, the 4yo went one better to shed his maiden status under a fantastic ride by Ronan Thomas for trainer Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle in the card opening. a LOCAL PUREBRED ARABIAN NOVICE PLATE contest. In the seven-furlong run, the colt was a couple of lengths behind Al Baraa coming off the final bend and then surged past the leader for two and three-quarter lengths and victory at the post.
