PREPARE FOR BATTLE, ABERCROMBIE, NAHAAB shine on Guineas Day

Deborah Amanda Clare Mountain registered her first Cup winner of the season when Hassan Ali Al Abdulmalik’s PREPARE FOR BATTLE (Declaration Of War x Red Carpet Miss) made a victorious Qatar debut under Saleem Golam on the turf at Al Rayyan Park on Thursday. The colt, who won his maiden in Ireland in September, beat Al Shaqab Racing’s duo, Al Adaid

and Alhazm, comfortably by a length and a half. Argentina’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Carlos Hernandez presented the trophies to the winning connections post the race.


Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki’s third winner of the day was Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s ABERCROMBIE (Dahess x Anastasya) who, under Eduardo Pedroza, won a thrilling duel with Carlo Fiocchi ridden Evolution Du Croate in the final furlong of the mile long Purebred Arabian Guineas (4 Years Old).


Mohamed Abdulla Abdulmalik’s NAHAAB (Zoffany x On Duty) led a one-two for trainer Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki in the Local Thoroughbred Guineas (3 years old) as the Eduardo Pedroza-ridden colt finished a quarter of a length ahead of the Jimmy Quinn-helmed Surra Man Raa. Last year’s HH The Amir’s Sword winner, EBRAZ (Amer x Massamarie), made a winning start to the new season in Qatar with a fast pace on the home straight under Stephan Ladjadj in the Purebred Arabian Handicap (90 & above). H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s colt, trained by Julian Colin Smart, won the miler with two and a quarter lengths to spare in what is expected to be a prep race for the 5yo ahead of the season.

In a close finish to the 1850m Purebred Arabian Plate (3 Year Olds), with Qatari jockey Faleh Bughanaim in the saddle, Al Shaqab Racing’s DALOOB (TM Fred Texas x Haija) made a winning debut in Qatar. The Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle-saddled gelding, promising in France, won at the post by a head.
Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri’s COURAGEUX (Sepoy x Luv U), too, made a winning start to his time in Qatar when Carlo Fiocchi guided the Stefano Ibido-saddled 2yo to a comfortable two and a quarter-length victory in the Thoroughbred Plate (2 Year Olds) (Class 2).
After finishing in places twice earlier this season, the Hadi Nasser Rashid Al Ramzani-schooled HOLY SHAMBLES (Holy Roman Emperor x Shim Sham) managed to edge out the Harry Bentley-helmed Strategist in the final few metres to win by a neck at the post in the six furlong Thoroughbred Plate (3 Year Olds) (Class 3).
The Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki-trained COULD BE (Sakhee x Catch Us) edged out the competition in a blanket finish to register his second straight victory. Eduardo Pedroza helmed Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi owned gelding in the mile long Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 4) (85 & below).
Meshaal Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s AL KHAZILEAH (Redolent x Red Paola) registered her second C&D victory this calendar year after JP Guillambert helmed the Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim-saddled 4yo to a comfortable two-length victory in the card-opening Local Thoroughbred Handicap (80 & below).
