Ibido-trained SALMAN BU THAILA takes Halul Island Cup

HALUL ISLAND CUP (Local Thoroughbreds)

The Abdulhadi Mana Al Hajri-owned SALMAN BU THAILA (Cockney Rebel x Hvasavi) stepped up in distance just fine winning the 2400m turf feature in style under Carlo Fiocchi. Stefano Ibido’s ward had finished fourth up against this field in Ras Laffan Cup in November, but did well to beat Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki’s ASAAF (Aussie Rules x Feel), the winner then, on Thursday. Marvin Suerland rode Asaaf to second spot, five lengths ahead of the Mohammed Hussain Afroz=saddled ABSHER (Dr Fong x Braemar Games), ridden by Theo Bachelot.

THOROUGHBREDS (Fillies & Mares) (Class 2)

Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki had a second winner on the day when Eduardo Pedroza rode MANGO TANGO (Siyouni x Alexandrina) to an impressive victory in the penultimate race of the day. The win in the 2000m race on turf on Thursday was the third straight victory for Abdulatif Hussain Al Emadi’s 5yo, who has been unbeaten this season in three outings. The Stefano Ibido-saddled CROARA (Exceed and Excel x Alleviate) went past the line three lengths and three quarters behind Mango Tango, but did enough, under Carlo Fiocchi, to edge out Mohammed Jassim Ghazali Jahromi’s SCUDDING (Mizzen Mast x Pearl In Sand) for second spot while the latter was third under JP Guillambert.
