After a promising start to the season, Ahmed Mohamad Kobeissi trained FOOTPRINTINTHESAND (Footstepsinthesand x Adventures) had seen a dip in form. However that changed when Saleem Golam helmed the Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik owned 7yo to a comfortable

feature victory on the dirt track of the QREC on Wednesday. The horse had not finished outside the top three the entire last season in Qatar, but had been found wanting barring a few occasions. On Wednesday, he held off JP Guillambert ridden MOSAYTER (Country Reel x Red Bravo), trained by Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi, who already had four winners earlier in the day, by a little less than two lengths for the win. Stephan Ladjadj guided Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki schooled WAR KING (Paynter x Queensbridge) to third.

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s RASSAN (Amer x Sandytiki) got back to winning ways at the QREC showing his versatility over distances, winning over six furlongs on Wednesday. Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward had won over longer distances earlier this season but that seemed to be no problem for the 8yo as he led a one-two for the trainer under Marc Lerner’s ride. Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s SAMJIDA (Majd Al Arab x CR Samborsta) bounced back from a forgettable 10th place finish over C&D for a runner up spot under JP Guillambert. Mohanad Jassim Al Yaqout saddled AL AFREET (Amer x Aziza D’Aroco) was ridden to third place by Tomas Lukasek.

Coming into the race, Khalifa Bin Sheail Al Kuwari’s FESTIVE (Literato x Path Of Life) had been well held on both her handicap starts earlier this season. However, Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward was impressive under Anas Al Seyabi’s ride as the 4yo led a one-two for the champion trainer with THE PANTRY (Zebedee x Break Bread), ridden by JP Guillambert also in the colours of Al Kuwari, going past the line four and a half lengths behind the winner. Mohammed Ali Yousef Al Sheeb trained INDARIA (Sleeping Indian x Azharia) completed the top three in the six furlong sprint under Marvin Suerland.

THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 5) (75 & below)
Khalil Mansoor Khalil Al Shahwani’s MASKED DEFENDER (First Defence x Costume) made his preference for dirt amply clear when the 3yo registered his second victory on the surface on Wednesday. Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s ward had won a maiden over C&D in February before notching two top-three finishes. On Wednesday, under Tadgh O’Shea, the colt beat Ibrahim Saeed Ibrahim Al Malki saddled GREYSCAPE (Dark Angel x Sugar Blossom), with Saleem Golam astride, comfortably, with a length and three quarters to spare. Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim trained CRISSCROSSED (Oasis Dream x Double Crossed) bounced back from a forgettable finish a month ago to third, the 6yo’s best finish this season, under Almotasem Al Balushi.

Umm Qarn’s BINT AMIR (Amer x Al Hanoof) continued her momentum registering her second straight victory over C&D on Wednesday. Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle’s ward had registerd her first victory in Qatar over six furlongs in February before making it to the frame the next month. Two weeks ago, Stephan Ladjadj helmed the 5yo to a comfortable handicap victory over 1700m, before the duo combined again on Wednesday for a thrilling victory that saw the filly beat Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi schooled SAAB AL MANAL (Hatteen x Al Naamah), ridden by JP Guillambert, by a nose at the line. Mohammed Salama Salim Ashour’s DIJLAH ZAKHIR (Munahis x Marikitah) was third under Marc Lerner.

Jassim Bin Ali Al Attiyah’s ALMAKFEE (Makfi x Sapphire Bracelet) went one better than his last outing to pick up his first career win. The colt had shown promise with a runner up finish over 1700m last week. Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s charge had no trouble stepping up in distance and won the 2000m run on Wednesday with a dominant six lengths to spare at the line. Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki trained AL MIKDAM (Myboycharlie x Kilfarasy) made it to second spot in the race, ahead of another Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi ward, DAIRA BRIDGE (Dream Ahead x Lady Livius), ridden by JP Guillambert

Julian Colin Smart’s ward, SOULTA (Amer x Nashma), bounced back from a forgettable outing in December to register her first career victory. The 4yo had a runner up finish over C&D in December before slumping to 10th on turf later that month. Returning to dirt, the filly, ridden on Wednesday by Tadgh O’Shea in the silks of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Thani, registered a comfortable victory, beating Umm Qarn’s HAREEMAH (Nizam x Al Hanooof), ridden by Jean Baptiste Hamel for Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, by a little less than three lengths. Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi’s LEGTAIFIYA (Mahabb x Lyvia) completed the top three under Marc Lerner.

Mohamed Khaled Elahmed trained MALEEKAT SABAA (Windsor Palace x Hysterical Lady) had improved to a creditable third from a forgettable debut last month. The 3yo, progressed well on her third career outing, shedding her maiden status in a fantastic win on Wednesday. Ridden by Anas Al Seyabi in the coluors of Noor Khalid Al Ahmed, the filly made good use of her weight advantage to go past the line a little less than six lengths ahead of the competition. Marc Lerner helmed Mohammed Salama Salim Ashour saddled AL RAYYAN PARK (Zoffany x Sister Clement) to second, ahead of Jassim Mohammed Ghazali Jahromi schooled BAHI (Lethal Force x Heavenly Whisper), who made it to second straight third place finish in as many races.
